From top to bottom, the drive shaft stripper arm, jaws self-tailing, drum and upper and lower trim rings. are made from the highest quality 316 stainless steel and beautifully polished. Like all ANDERSEN™ winches, our fully stainless Self-Tailing winch features the exclusive Power Rib™ drum.stainless steel for maximum power and extended line. life. This model also uses our exclusive self-tailing feature which automatically adapts to Wi-Fi. A range of different line sizes.
Materials
Andersen winch drums are produced from grade 316L stainless steel, cold formed in stages during manufacturing to further increase strength. and the hardness when it takes its final form. The resulting construction is lightweight, yet rigid and inflexible.
The drive shafts are made from grade 329 duplex stainless steel. The pawls are cut from a cold-pressed profile of grade 316 stainless steel and are virtually unbreakable.
The upper center rods are made from aluminum bronze for ultimate durability. The combination of materials and design contributes to a lightweight and rigid final assembly that highlights. the mechanical efficiency of the hoisthe. Andersen winces are similar in weight to winches equipped with aluminum drums, but are much more durable.
Power Rib™
ANDERSEN© winches are equipped with the Power Rib™. Unlike other winches with abrasive drum surfaces, ANDERSEN winch drums have vertical ribs rising up the surface. This, combined with the polished, smooth stainless steel, gives maximum grip and minimal rope wear, reducing the costs of replacing sheets and halyards. In addition, the Power Rib principle simply makes navigation more pleasant. Fewer turns on the winch make tacking easier. Leaves can be removed gently without harsh tearing and the risk of overhangs and stuck leaves is significantly reduced. The grip provided by the ribs will remain the same year after year, unlike many other winches that have an abrasive surface orsimilar to sandpaper. Such surfaces tend to wear on both the strings and themselves.
Power ratio
The power ratio is the mechanical advantage of the winch and is calculated as follows:

The pull of the winch is based on the power ratio and not just on the physical size of the winch. the winch or the diameter of the drum. The power ratio is used to determine the load that the winch can handle as follows: handle pull (kg x power ratio = winch pull (kg).
This means that by applying a 10kg load, using a standard 10" handle, on a 40:1 winch power ratio, the winch can pull 400kg, assuming the winch is 100% efficient, which does not is not possible in practice because the efficiency is reduced by mechanical friction lossesinternal e.

The highly polished stainless steel surface minimizes vertical friction and allows the loaded cable to rotate. slide up easily as the drum rotates, without the shaking and excessive cable wear seen on winches that rely on a rough surface finish for grip.
Stainless steel roller and ball bearings support the highest drum loads toward the center. winch rod, minimizing efficiency losses due to friction.
The auto-tail arm can be rotated 360 degrees for optimal positioning (40ST and above). Self-tailing stainless steel jaws automatically adjust to accommodate different rope sizes.
