It is very important to have support plates under every rod holder used for heavy tackle fishing. When the rod holder is under extreme load, ordinary nuts and washers can concentrate stress and cause cracks around your rod holders, or even tear, causing serious damage to the gunnel. Smith Backing Plates evenly distribute mounting bolt pressure over an area 30 times greater than standard washers alone. 2 sizes, one for the 70 series and one for the 80 series rod holders. Each size fits all 3 models in the series.
