How to catch more fish with Hawkeye fishfinders

Adjust sensitivity:
There are 5 user selectable sensitivity settings. This greatly depends on the clarity and/or depth of the water. Very clear water allows for moderate water sensitivity adjustment. Conversely, dirty water requires a higher sensitivity setting to target detail, but will increase irritating false readings. Targeting deep-sea fish generally requires greater sensitivity, en especially in stained or dirty water. Salt water and brackish water also require a comparatively higher sensitivity setting. Although this analysis may seem confusing, the concept is simple. As the device's sensitivity is raised, a wider view and smaller details are displayed on the screen. But a broader, stronger vision leads to more clutter and debris. The clearer the water, the less sensitivity is needed to obtain fine detail and vice versa.

Use the fish alarm:
You can set the FishTrax 1 so that it emits a beep. alarm when a group of fish is detected. Turn it on, and when a fish passes under the sonar sensor, an audible alarm will sound. You can then use the fish depth scale to drop your bait to a depth that will put it in front of the fish. Leave the alarm on if you are using an appt hand-cranked so you don't have to regularly monitor the fish on the screen. If you hear the alarm, gently cast your bait at least 20 feet beyond the sonar sensor, let the bait fall to the depth of the fish alarm, and retrieve it as recommended for the target species.

Maximize Side Scan
Here are some ideas for maximizing the usefulness of the Side Scan Adapter: Attach it to a dock and scan sideways for swimming fish. Attach it to a boat, kayak or canoe hull and slowly drag the fish along, while monitoring the fish behind or in front of you. Attach it to a broom handle and look for the best place to fish. Attach it to a broomstick and search for fish hiding away from your fishing hole while ice fishing.
