8 Braid Nylon Rope eliminates some of the maintenance issues associated with ropes 3 strands. 8-Plait uses 8 individual braided strands woven together which allow the rope to be relaxed. But when it is subjected to a load, it tightens until it becomes firm. The higher the load, the more difficult the installation becomes.
8-Plait has the same tensile strength as 3-Strand.
8-Plait will not roll up and create a "bird's nest" in the rack like 3-Strand will. 8-The braid flakes and falls on itself.
8-The braid does not twist or knot.
8-Plait will not coil on itself.
8-Plait has less stretch so it will not sink deep into the gypsy's grip when 'it is overloaded, which means less damage to the stripper when the windlass is abused or overloaded.
8-The braid will pull backe of the windlass in the locker much like a chain, allowing better use of smaller locker models.
8-Plait is 80% less of a rope to become stiff when used in salt water than a 3-strand rope.

8-The braid should be soaked in water (salt or fresh - it doesn't matter) to pre-lubricate the rope so that it can be used in the windlass at first.
