The addition of Return Link Service (RLS) technology and near-field communication capability round out the EPIRB2 Pro's impressive feature set.
Smartphone connectivity using near-field communication near field
The integration of NFC technology provides users with the ability to easily access beacon data from their mobile phones. Simply placing a phone near the beacon automatically opens the Ocean Signal Product app and provides access to a wealth of usage data, including current battery life, number of self-tests performed, number of GNSS tests carried out and, if applicable, durationduring which the beacon was activated.
Detailed information on each self-test and GNSS test performed by the beacon is also available. Information accessible for each successful GNSS test includes access to a map showing exactly where the test was performed, the date and time of the test, the time it took for the beacon to obtain a GNSS coordinate reading, the number of satellites used by the beacon to obtain this marker and the precision of the location.
Worldwide coverage via the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network
Exploiting the global range from the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network, the EPIRB2 Pro can be activated anywhere, at any time, and will transmit your 406 MHz distress message. The distress transmission includes beacon coordinates derived from the EPIRB's built-in GNSS receiver and accurate to within 100 meters.
RLS reassures users by sending a return signal via the G satellite networkalileo directly to the beacon to confirm that the distress message has been received and the location of the beacon has been detected. User confirmation is clearly indicated by a flashing blue light.
Return Link Service (RLS)
Return Link Service (RLS) )
The inherent stress associated with a maritime emergency is a difficult symptom that all boaters unfortunately must deal with if they find themselves in a distress scenario. Fortunately, the inclusion of the EPIRB2 Pro feature helps minimize stress in such situations. RLS provides direct confirmation to the beacon letting the user know that their distress message has been received and their location has been detected. Indication of EPIRB functionality is represented by a distinctive blue light, allowing users to easily determine when EPIRB confirmation is received.
Mounting Bracket
The EPIRB2 Pro comes with a Class I self-release floatless mounting bracket. This bracket stores safely safety the EPIRB2 Pro for the entire duration of your trip, whatever the conditions encountered. It also offers the best chance of deployment in distress situations where it is difficult to derail a crew member to reach the EPIRB.
