Meet the Pirtle Nursery Bald Cypress Tree. The Bald Cypress is a fast growing tree that is naturally found on lake and river edges, swamps or flooded sites. This large coniferous tree is unique in that it loses its needles, hence the "bald" appearance during winter months as the soft, feathery needles fall and it makes way for new growth. Prior to falling, the needles turn a copper-red color marking the fall months arrival. The Bald Cypress Tree grows quite tall, 50-70ft, and makes for excellent shade in hot climates. Resistant to rot, the Bald Cypress prefers well-drained acidic soils; however, it adapts well to other types.
