Aluminum Inner Cylinder - 1.25" Bore and 7" Stroke
A hydraulic steering system consists of a steering pump, a cylinder linked to the rudder or outboard or sterndrive motor and the connecting hoses. Under normal operating conditions, one turn of the flywheel will pump oil which will flow through the pipes to the cylinder, depending on the direction of rotation.
With the resulting movement of the cylinder, the oil will flow to the pump through the pipes and, at the same time, move the motor or bar, which are connected to the cylinder. The pumps, equipped with a valve that prevents the outgoing fluid from returning through the same pipe, allow the operation of steering systems with two or more steering positions. The cylinders are double acting and can be balanced or unbalanced. This particular cylinder is a balanced cylinder with the same number of revolutions of the flywheel in order to dmove the bar from the center towards the end of travel in two opposite directions. A well-balanced steering system requires the correct choice of pump for the cylinder.
This UC 116-I inboard engine hydraulic cylinder has been designed and manufactured for use as a component in steering systems hydraulics. . The cylinder with movable rod is installed directly on the rudder arm through the appropriate ball joint located at the end of the cylinder. On the opposite side, it is fixed directly to the boat thanks to a support with plate.
