The fishing odds are on your side every time you go out with a Deptherm, Model 104, for two simple but important reasons. It quickly and accurately tells you the temperatures below your boat and also tells you the depth of those temperature ranges. So, if you have the temperature map, you will quickly know if you are fishing in an area where fish are most likely to be found. If your Deptherm indicates that the water is too cold or too warm for the species you are looking for, you can move quickly like fish do. You won't waste the day in the wrong place. Deptherm works like this: dropped on a line, increasing pressure forces water into the tube as the instrument descends. The volume of water trapped in the tube serves as a depth measurement column and is read on the side of the tube calibrated in feet. The tearmometer on the other side ensures accurate temperature readings if the instrument is left in place for 30 seconds.

General application:

Attach the Deptherm to the line and let it sink to the bottom or any intermediate depth. Stay there for 30 seconds and return to the surface. Read the depth on the calibrated side at the top of the water column and the temperature on the temperature plate. Reverse instruments; press the valve to release the water. Shake until all water is drained before using again. Downrigger Application – Attach the Deptherm Model 104 to the ball of your downrigger to monitor water temperature and depth at the downrigger. When you lift the ball to re-rig, check the temperature and depth. Temperature readings on the Deptherm will not change while the ball is lifted due to a delayed reaction (1-2 minutes).
