Long range intelligent battery detection (up to 10M)

The VE.Bus smart dongle is a Bluetooth Smart compatible VE.Bus interface, with temperature and battery voltage. detection. It communicates system information directly to your smartphone, using the free VictronConnect app. When used with multiple inverter/chargers, the dongle provides temperature and voltage sensing capabilities on the battery, helping to compensate for possible cable losses that may occur during charging and discharging. Temperature sensing allows for precise temperature compensation during battery charge cycles. The dongle is, at this time, the only way to add "on battery" sensing capability to MultiPlus-II models, if they are not also connected to a GX device and CANbus battery.

The dongle can be used insystems with or without a GX device, such as the CCGX. In systems with a GX device and another source of temperature and voltage data (e.g. from a CANbus battery), the CCGX data will override the temperature and voltage information from the dongle. In this role, the dongle will still provide live information through its VictronConnect interface; and it will provide firmware updates without requiring an Internet connection.

When the dongle is used in systems that do not have a GX device, the voltage and temperature data from the dongle becomes the primary source of this information and can be used by other connected devices for voltage compensation.

In systems with a Multiplus-II, dongle and GX device, but no other source of temperature and voltage, data from the dongle will also be used.

At present, the VE.Bus Sma donglert cannot send its temperature and voltage data as part of a VE.Smart network.

The VE.Bus Smart dongle is capable of detecting the battery. temperature in two ways: The default method is the temperature sensor built into the dongle. When the dongle is mounted directly to the battery case (using its adhesive mount), it will sense the battery temperature directly from the battery case. The second method, which provides improved detection of battery temperature, is available using an optional sensor mounted on the battery terminal. When this sensor is connected, the default sensor is overwritten and the dongle uses this method instead.
