iKommunicate NMEA 0183/2000 at Signal K Gateway

"The Kickstarter-funded success story that's enabling the Internet of Things."

iKommunicate is a smart gateway device that allows traditional boat navigation systems to become part of the "Internet of Things". By converting data from standard "closed" NMEA networks found on most boats to Signal K, the new "open" HTML5-based, Internet-ready data format, a whole new world of social, connected boating will now be possible.

Traditionally, marine electronic systems communicated with each other via the industry standard NMEA0183 and the newer NMEA2000 networks. These interfaces are very reliable, proven and fit for purpose, but the costs incurred by developers to become NMEA members, purchase specifications and have their software certified have significantly limited thehe number of marine applications using NMEA data. With the release of Signal K, a new open data format for boats, all of this is about to change and it will suddenly become very easy for developers to read and use NMEA data. iKommunicate is driving this change, as the first NMEA to Signal K gateway product that will connect to NMEA networks and convert all data to the new Signal K format

Featuring three opto-isolated NMEA0183 inputs , two differential NMEA0183 outputs and an NMEA2000 network interface, iKommunicate can handle all NMEA data sent to it. Its 120 MHz Atmel processor efficiently converts NMEA data into Signal K JSON data, the standard for the latest generation of HTML5 websites and applications, which is then output via HTTP or multiple high-speed Web Sockets.

iKommunicate_s Ethernet (RJ45), allows it to be connected to the networkto the boat's wired/wireless connection so that any mobile device connected to the network can display Signal K data in its compatible browser or application. A few web apps come pre-installed in iKommunicate (including the popular Dashboard) so you can immediately start viewing your network's NMEA data and it has an 8GB micro SD card that can host all the news Signal K web applications as they become available.
