NavLink 2 is an easy-to-install NMEA 2000 to WiFi server, designed so that NMEA 2000 navigation data can be made available for applications on smartphones, tablets, iPads and PCs. Installation takes seconds thanks to the directional connection to the NMEA 2000 backbone and self-powering from the data network.

Once installed, it creates a local WiFi network to which devices can log in or can be scheduled to join. an existing wireless network if one already exists. This is ideal for devices like the Furuno Wireless Radar that require operation over their own dedicated network but require NMEA 2000 data integration for mapping applications.

NavLink:

NavLink is an application to Low cost designed for use with an iPhone or iPad. It turns your iPad into a full-featured chart plotter with detailed electronic charts and an overlay of your boat's position, track and heading. It is purchased through the Apple App Store and includes detailed UKHO Admiralty maps covering the whole of the United Kingdom and Ireland. Additional US (S57 NOAA), French, Benelux, German and Danish maps can be added via in-app purchase. NOAA S57 charts cover the entire United States.

Charts can be viewed north or up, and routes and waypoints are created and edited using a simple touch screen interface. Real-time navigation displays your current position, track, heading,speed, your ETA, your VMG, your bearing and the distance to the next waypoint. There's also a simple A-B map ruler and you can tap on an object such as a buoy or navigation aid and get a pop-up data window of its characteristics. Current weather data and local conditions can be downloaded from weather buoys (internet connection required), ideal for up-to-the-minute local weather forecasts before you head out on your trip. S57 Admiralty UKHO maps are vector based so data can be overlaid and turned on/off by the user, allowing maps to be decluttered as needed.

It is also designed to work seamlessly with Digital Yacht's NMEA to WiFi devices. it will therefore integrate with your boat's GPS and AIS systems. If AIS data is available, yourrez AIS targets overlaid with all their identity information and a heading line as well as alarms for CPA and TCPA.

Using your onboard GPS with these wireless servers means you never have to no need for a GPS-enabled iPad. Even if your device is GPS enabled, this greatly reduces battery drain when using an external source. This also means that your iPad/phone can be used below deck and, in general, the boat's GPS is superior for marine navigation.

NavLink also helps with your lookout and watchkeeping. In HorizonView mode, you can use the iPhone/iPad camera to scan the horizon. You will get an overlay on the cameras screen of navigation aids, AIS targets and waypoints which is an excellent viewing aid.
