A pressure gauge works by sending a low amperage current through the gauge's meter to ground via a variable resistance sending unit The resistance of the units d. The sending increases or decreases with changes in pressure, temperature, etc.

As the resistance of the emitter varies, the amount of current allowed to pass through it to ground changes. and the meter deviates, showing the change in pressure.
