The M25 floats when dropped into water, even with the optional HM213 microphone attached. The flashing light function activates when the radio touches water, even if the power is off. Not only does the LCD screen and key backlight on the front panel flash, but also a red LED light flashes across the rear panel indicating the location of the radio for easy retrieval.
