A pressure gauge works by sending a low amperage current through the gauge's meter to ground via a variable resistance sending unit. The resistance of sending units increases or decreases with changes in pressure and temperature. , etc...
As the resistance of the emitter varies, the amount of current allowed to flow through it to ground changes and the meter deflects, showing the change in pressure.
