Newmar BI-24-100 24V Battery Integrator Bestsellers
Using multiple battery banks requires that batteries be connected or "integrated" only when a charging voltage is present so that they can be charged simultaneously and then disconnected or "isolated" when used for allow selective discharge and avoid having the secondary or backup battery drain into the primary battery.
The new Battery Integrator performs this function automatically, acting as a "smart" switch to connect independent battery banks only when a charging voltage is present. Otherwise, they are isolated and discharge between the banks is prevented.
The traditional robust and reliable diode isolator can also be used for this function, as it also maintains the isolation between the banks and allows the load from multiple sources. However, a disadvantage is inefficiency when voltage is lost whencurrent passes through the diodes, resulting in undercharging if the charging source does not compensate for the voltage drop.
The Battery Integrator remedies this through the use of an extremely low resistance contactor which causes no voltage drop in the charging system, while multiple batteries are charged as a single bank each time that a charging source of approximately 13.2 VDC or 26.4 VDC or greater is present (depending on model).
When the alternator or charger is turned off or a heavy load is drop the voltage below the disconnection point, the unit breaks the common link between the banks. This allows selective battery discharge and prevents 'spill' from a more charged battery into a less charged battery.
The unit can also be activated via the key starter or a manual switch to provide an additional "boost". of the secondary battery each timethat the starter is engaged and the unit detects that there is sufficient voltage in this battery to provide assistance.
For systems with more than two banks, an additional unit can be installed for each additional bank so provide the same isolation and integration as described above.
The battery integrator is ideal for multiplying the single load output of an inverter-charger to maintain both the internal battery and an engine starting battery, then to isolate them during operation of the inverter, so that current is drawn from the internal battery only.
