PSS shaft seal 45mm shaft and 3-1/4" tube Marine Hardware
45mm Shaft Seal and 3-1/4" Tube
This PSS Type A Shaft Seal is a mechanical seal. The sealing surface is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless steel rotor and the fixed carbon flange.
The PSS shaft seal is the best-selling marine mechanical seal in the world and is installed as equipment. standard by many of the world's most reputable boat builders and shipyards PSS shaft seal is also recognized as the leading retrofit (aftermarket) seal in the global market. the benefits and value of installing PSS, as it eliminates maintenance, constant adjustment and associated costs. Besides these benefits, the PSS shaft seal helps eliminate water in. the hold (100% waterproof) and propeller shaft wear.
How does it work?
- Two daysNitrile O-rings seal the stainless steel rotor to the shaft and will not expire.
- A primary set screw and a backup set screw (2 sets) are used to secure the rotor stainless steel to the shaft.
- A seal is created between the two flat screws. carbon stator and stainless steel rotor surfaces.
- Water is introduced into the PSS shaft seal to cool/lubricate the seal faces on high speed vessels.
- The stationary carbon stator is attached to the nitrile bellows, which in turn is attached to the stern tube (shaft log).
Rotor
The rotor is made of 316L stainless steel and machined with a 9-12Ra finish on precision CNC lathes. It is secured to the shaft using 2 pairs of set screws positioned at a 90 degree angle for maximum holding power. The stainless steel rotor further polishes the carbon stator during pfirst hours of operation.
Carbon stator
The resin-impregnated, high-density carbon stator is made from an advanced composite that is First mixed and molded and then formed under pressure. The blank parts are then fired, machined and lapped to a measured flatness of 4 helium light strips (measured at 0.000044" variation across its lapped surface). The grade of carbon composite used in the joint PSS shaft seal has a maximum operating temperature of 500°F (+260°C) and cannot melt if the seal dries for a short time, unlike a plastic lip seal or face seal. Plus, the high density of carbon significantly increases longevity and wear resistance. As a result, several commercial vessels have logged over 40,000 engine hours (over 4 and a half years of continuous operation) with the same components. origin.
Breathts
Type A seal bellows are molded from a nitrile compound. Nitrile is known for its good resistance to petroleum products. Additionally, it offers the best combination of durability, strength and elasticity needed for this application. circulating water (greater than 12 knots), a positive water supply must be connected to the PSS shaft seal to lubricate and cool the seal faces. Please see the PSS Shaft Seal Installation Instructions for more information on tap points for water supply. In most cases, a slow speed boat (less than 12 knots) that does not have support on the tree trunk does not require a positive water supply and can simply be released to the open air . Ideally, the vent line will run at least 2 to 3 feet above the waterline et as close to the center line as possible. This will ensure that the vent pipe is never below the water line, even if there is significant healing. The PSS shaft seal installation instructions contain more details on seal ventilation.

PSS Shaft Seal, 45mm Shaft and 3-1/4" Tube Product Description
Shaft Seal of 45mm Shaft and 3-1/4" Tube
This type A PSS shaft seal is a mechanical seal. The sealing surface is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless steel rotor and the fixed carbon flange.
The PSS shaft seal is the best-selling marine mechanical seal in the world and is installed as standard equipment by many of the world's most renowned boat builders and shipyards. PSS shaft seal is also recognized as the leading retrofit (aftermarket) seal in the global market. Boat builders and shipyards recognize the benefits and value of installing PSS because it eliminates the maintenance, constant adjustment and costs associated with traditional cable glands. In addition to these benefits, the PSS shaft seal helps eliminate water in the bilge (100% waterproof) and wearof the propeller shaft.
How does it work?
- Two nitsRile O-rings seal the stainless steel rotor to the shaft and will not suffer wear .
- One main set screw and one backup set screw (2 sets) are used to secure the stainless steel rotor to the shaft.
- A seal is created between the two flat surfaces of the carbon stator and the stainless steel rotor.
- Water is introduced into the PSS shaft seal to cool/ lubricate the seal faces at high temperature. -fast ships.
- The fixed carbon stator is attached to the nitrile bellows, which is attached to the stern tube (shaft log).
