PRO shaft seal for 2-3/4" shaft and 4" tube

The PSS PRO shaft seal is a mechanical face seal using The proven stainless steel and carbon of PSS Shaft Seal. sealing components but added reinforced silicone bellows, secondary shaft retention collar, 316 stainless steel hose clamps (rolled, non-perforated edges) and Nitronic rotor upgrade 50 optional (for highly corrosive environments). Designed specifically for applications that will require increased durability and resistance to harsh, corrosive, high pressure and otherwise demanding environments, the PSS PRO shaft seal is a specialized mechanical seal suitable for various applications with unrivaled performance.

As with PSS seals types A and B, the PRO shaft seal is a mechanical seal. The sealing surface is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless steel rotordable and the fixed carbon flange. The fixed carbon flange is attached to a heavy duty silicone bellows attached to the ship's stern tube (shaft log) with 316SS hose clamps. The stainless steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and serves to compress the bellows. The rotor is then attached to the shaft with set screws and the shaft retention collar is installed. This compression (preload) maintains constant contact between the two contact faces of the stainless steel rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the PSS to compensate for the variable axial movement due to propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is overbored relative to the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" around the shaft and thus compensate for most misalignments and transmission vibrations. The stainless steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings recessed into the rotor bore. These O-rings allrnent with the stainless steel shaft and rotor and therefore do not suffer any wear during operation.

Components:

Shaft Collar retention

PYI Shaft RemovalThe retention collar is designed to help retain the propeller or rudder shaft in a vessel in the event of a catastrophic coupling failure or if the shaft becomes detached from the coupling. The double slot design provides maximum axial holding power with quick and efficient assembly with the installed shaft. The design fully engages the tree without spoiling it. Easily installed where major disassembly would otherwise be required. Greater axial holding power than set screws or one-piece clamps. Effective on both hard and soft shafts.

Rotor

The PRO seal rotor is made from 316L stainless steel and machined to a 9-12Ra finish. on professional CNC lathesdecision. It is secured to the shaft using 2 pairs of set screws positioned at a 90 degree angle; Additionally, a locking collar is placed in front of the rotor and further retains the propeller or rudder shaft in the event of catastrophic failure of the coupling or if the shaft becomes detached from the coupling. As on the Type A seal, the stainless steel rotor further polishes the carbon stator during the first few hours of operation.

Carbon stator

The high density resin impregnated carbon stator The carbon stator is made from an advanced composite that is first mixed, molded, then formed under pressure. The blank parts are then fired, machined and lapped to a measured flatness of 4 helium light strips (measured at 0.000044" variation across its lapped surface). The grade of carbon composite used in the joint PSS shaft has a maximum operating temperature of 500.°F (+260°C) and cannot melt if the seal dries for a short time, unlike a plastic lip seal or face seal. In addition, the high density of carbon significantly increases longevity and resistance to wear. commercial vessels have logged over 40,000 engine hours (over 4.5 years of continuous operation) with the same original components.

Bellows

The bellows on the PRO and Type B PSS seals are made of high temperature silicone laminated with 4 or 5 layers of polyester fabric (aramid in larger sizes) and covered with a layer of fluorosilicone. Additionally, both ends of the gusset are sealed so that no water can penetrate the polyester/aramid fabric. The 4 or 5 fabric inlay offers excellent resistance to abrasion and pressure without loading the silicone. On larger models, resistance is significantly increased thanks toe to the use of stainless steel hoops placed in the convolutions of the bellows.

Pipe barb

For high speed models (for hulls or vessels sailing at speeds greater than 12 knots), it is necessary that a positive water supply be connected to the PSS shaft seal to lubricate and cool the seal faces. There are many sources of water supply; See the PSS Shaft Seal Installation Instructions for more information and note that all plumbing must follow appropriate boat plumbing standards and practices. In most cases, a slow speed water boat without a bearing in the shaft log does not require a positive water supply and can be "vented". Ideally, the vent line will run at least 2 to 3 feet above the waterline and as close to the centerline as possible to ensure that theThe ventilation pipe is never below the waterline, even if the boat lists. Again, see the PSS shaft seal installation instructions for details on seal ventilation.

PSS PRO shaft seal for 2-3/4" shaft and 4" tube Product description

PRO shaft seal for 2-3/4" shaft and 4" tube

The PSS PRO Shaft Seal is a mechanical seal using PSS Shaft Seal's proven stainless steel and carbon sealing components, but adding a reinforced silicone bellows, seal retention collar secondary shaft, 316 stainless steel hose clamps (rolled, non-perforated edges) and optional Nitronic 50. rotor upgrade (for very corrosive environments).

The summer surfaceA seal is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless steel rotor and the fixed carbon flange. The carbon stationary bridle is attached to a heavy-duty silicone bellows secured to the vessel's stern tube (shaft log) using 316SS hose clamps. The stainless steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and serves to compress the bellows. The rotor is then attached to the shaft with set screws and the shaft retention collar is installed. Components:

Shaft Retention Collar

The PYI Shaft Retention Collar is designed to help retain the propeller or rudder shaft in a vessel in the event of a catastrophic failure coupling or if the shaft becomes detached from the coupling. The double slot design provides maximum axial holding power with quick and efficient assembly with the installed shaft. The design fully engages the tree without spoiling it. It is secured to the shaft using 2 pairs of set screws positioned at a 90 degree angle; Additionally, a locking collar is placed in front of the rotor and further retains the propeller or rudder shaft in the event of physical failure of the coupling or if the shaft becomes detached from the coupling. As with the Type A seal, the stainless steel rotor further polishes the carbon stator during the first few hours of operation.

Carbon stator

The high density resin impregnated carbon stator is made from an advanced composite that is first mixed, molded, then formed under pressure.
